We had a great way of making Mothers day special for our mom, an entire ritual planned just to make her day extra special. It's one of my favorite stories to tell my kids, how we'd get together and plan to make mom's day extra special. My husband and kids have kept that tradition alive for me and I want to share it here with all of you.

Breakfast in Bed

This isn't anything new or original but my dad used to wake us up extra early and we all pitched in to make a special breakfast for my mom. Breakfast was the works, fresh coffee, juice, lots of fruit, pancakes and waffles and a single carnation that we'd put in a vase made by my little sister at school. She made a new one every year and when I finally moved out, mom had a collection of all 10 that my little sister had made to that point. She proudly displayed it in our family room along with a candid picture of dad flipping pancakes.

Breakfast in bed- The Movie

We'd tape the entire mother's day breakfast for mom; not just the final presentation and eating part but also the breakfast making part. She'd watch it right after breakfast; it was the one movie she waited for all year and the sequels just kept getting better.

Dad's predictable surprise gift

Every year dad would buy a very special mothers day gift for mom because he felt that husbands should buy mother's day gifts for wives too. It was always a predictable surprise because we knew he'd buy her a mother's day gift basket but it was a surprise because back then mothers day gift baskets weren't this easy to buy and if you wanted a really good one, you had to go out and look for it. Dad would spend an entire month looking for unique mothers day gift baskets (having them delivered was often beyond expensive and the quality was always less than what was anticipated).

Today I get a wonderful breakfast in bed followed by a home movie about ‘How it's made' and I get to watch how my whole family, even our little baby boy (he sits in his chair and licks the batter) make a wonderful breakfast for me and my husband gives me my mother's day gift, a fruit bouquet, a truly unique kind of gift basket made of fruit and topped with chocolate. It's a tradition that I hope will live on for many generations in my family.

If you're looking for something unique to give your mom this mothers day try fruit bouquets; mothers day gift baskets made of fruit sculptures. they're the perfect mothers day gift for your mom, wife, daughter, grandma or godmother

Anyone have and christmas gift ideas for mom?

My mom just turned 50 and i need to buy her a nice gift. She actually just recovered from cancer so i need something unique (but not home made). She buys her own jewlery so nothing of that nature. Price max being around 100. She doesn't cook either so no kitchen appliances. Maybe a nice perfume or something? But anyways i'd like some new ideas. (Already has an Ipod). Thanks!
