Mothers day is when everyone goes all out on gifts for mom, there's no such thing as holding back or the whole ‘I'll get her something better next year'. Mothers day is practically a chance at redemption when you've upset your mom about something in the past or because you've been neglecting her lately and that's why people don't hold back.

They'll go out and buy the best gift baskets that are on sale or they'll buy really expensive flowers. There are people who make mothers day gifts at home with help from the local crafts stores and their own ingenuity.

Either ways you ensure you get some really great stuff for your mom but I think unique gifts for mothers day can be made better if people combine something really good that's store bought and use their crafting skills to add a little personal touch.

A lot of times you see a really great gift in the store and you want to get it for your mom but you decide not to because it doesn't have that personal touch or because you feel guilty just picking something out from a window display instead of putting your on own heart into making a gift for your mom.On the other hand when you make something special for your mom at home you sometimes wonder if you're being a bit of a cheapskate by not buying a proper gift from a store. You made stuff for your mom when you were a child so shouldn't she get something special?

An easy way to put an end to these negative feelings is to learn how to add a personal touch to store bought gifts. There isn't anything complex that goes into it, in fact making your own mothers day gift baskets comes pretty close to the concept. Let's say you decide to buy a mothers day gift basket for your mom, instead of just going with the store's card, craft one yourself using pictures or drawings you made when you were little. If you have kids, include some of their work in the card you make. You could make something that compliments the theme of your gift. If you decide to get your mom a fruit bouquet for mothers day, add a little homemade sculpture from dough that looks like fruit. If you still want to go for the scrapbook visit your mom, spend the day with her and take lots of pictures. There are only so many scrapbooks of your baby pictures that can be made so preserving a mothers day celebration like this will be a nice twist.

Remember to keep your gifts nice and affectionate. The point of mothers day is to acknowledge the role your mothers played in raising you. Never buy a gift like jewelry that suggests you're trying to pay off a debt or trying to make things even. Always do something that will add to her comfort or give her a special experience.

I'm the happy mother of three kids aged 8 years, 5 years and 18 months and as my kids are growing I'm facing new challenges in parenting everyday. I know I only get though the toughest mom challenges because of the great support group I have, my family and my friends and my wonderful neighborhood community of super moms.  My favorite Mothers day gift baskets come from here.
