This magnificent pair of Fu Dogs, cast from Hong Tze resin in a traditional deep and shiny red finish, are a authentic historical reproduction. The Chinese Fu Dog (fu is the Chinese word for happiness), also known as the Happiness Dog as well as the Celestial Dog, originated in China with its name deriving from the city of Foochow. The Fu Dog, a recurring theme in Chinese culture, has the positive attribute of bringing happiness and good fortune. Later in Ancient China, statues of these mythical creatures were placed outside homes, palaces and businesses to also ward off evil spirits and keep thieves at bay.
