4 Fun And Easy To Make Homemade Christmas Decorations

Homemade Christmas decorations are some of the most unique. They are also a lot of fun because you can enjoy them with your family. Below are 4 fun and easy to make homemade Christmas decorations:

Popcorn Stringing

If you like strung popcorn, it’s really simple to make. Start with a big bowl of popcorn (unbuttered, of course) and string it piece by piece using a standard sewing needle and thread. Make sure there’s plenty of popcorn because, if you’re stringing it for garland, you’re going to need a lot.

Cranberry Stringing

Much like the popcorn stringing method, many people used to string cranberries using a standard needle and thread. Again, make sure there’s plenty to go around if you’re going to use it as garland. Most importantly, and I know it’s tempting, don’t eat all the decorations. Save some for the Christmas tree.

Paper Chains

One of the greatest memories of decorating for Christmas, as a child, has to be the traditional paper chains. Using green and red construction paper, cut horizontal strips of each color. Fold them into a circle and seal with tape. Scotch tape is recommended and, if you use this when your child is young, the smell will always remind them of Christmas. It will likely become "Christmas tape" to them. Once you have a complete circle, take another strip in an alternating color and run it through the first circle. Next, fold it around and seal with tape. Complete this step until you have a big strand of paper garland in red and green. You and your child will enjoy doing this together and it will create wonderful memories for you both.

Lighted Wreath

If you love the look of a lighted wreath, but don’t quite have a budget for one of the more expensive ones, consider another option. You can purchase a plain green wreath very inexpensively. A small strand of lights can cost anywhere from .00 to .00. But, put them together and you have the look of a professionally lighted Christmas wreath. For this project, you could use either clear or multi-colored Christmas lights. Simply take the plain green wreath and wrap the lights around in a design similar to the stripes on a candy cane. Once you’ve gone all the way around, tuck the last light into the green of the wreath. Make sure that you place it near an electric outlet because there won’t be a lot of extra cord. Now that you’re ready, plug it in and see your very own design. A red bow is a nice touch, but not necessary. As people drive by, they will see a beautifully lit wreath in your window and they will have no idea that you saved a few bucks by wrapping the lights yourself.

Frequently Asked Questions

  1. QUESTION:
What are some easy, homemade Christmas gifts my kid can make for her aunts and uncles?
We want to use regular things like pipe cleaners, paint, and paper, but we can use other things too if the craft is really cool! Also, we have quite a few relatives to give to, so the craft needs to be easy enough to make a lot of!
My kid is 13 and she's been bugging me about finding something to make. She painted pictures last year, and she'd like to do something like that again with her new paint set, but she doesn't want to do the same thing twice.

    • ANSWER:
She could make some homemade stationery for relatives. There's directions at http://www.kidoozy.com under Special Stationery. It shows examples using rubber stamps, but she could certainly do some freehand with her paint.

There's also an idea for a personalized calendar that she could make painting her own pictures. That one is at the same site under Personalized Calendars.

      ANSWER:
      For ladies:

Buy inexpensive perfume bottles or atomizers at walmart or a similar store. You may even be able to find them at a dollar stor if you're lucky. I saw some really pretty ones at CVS today. Then put in a few drops of essential oils, available at health stores, or soap scents, available at craft stores. You can mix scents to come up with a special blend for each person (rose and cinnamon, lavender and musk, citrus and gardenia, etc.). Then fill the bottles the rest of the way with mineral oil or unscented baby oil. Use a silver or gold paint pen to write the person's name in pretty script on the bottle.

      Here's another one:

Buy inexpensive jars from a craft store, any kind you like will do. The fill them with layers of hot cocoa mix, powdered milk, mini marshmallows, powdered coffee flavorings (like mint, vanilla, etc.; you can use those creamers they sell in the coffee aisle, just leave out the powdered milk), mini chocolate chips, sprinkles, etc. Then melt some chocolate in a cup in the microwave by microwaving it in 10 second increments and stirring in between. Dip some inexpensive spoons into it and then place them on wax paper until the chocolate hardens. Wrap them individually in cellophane and tie with a ribbon. Get a few coffee cups from the dollar store and use a paint pen to write the lyrics to a christmas song on them, or write the recipients' names. Arrange 2 or 4 cups, 1 jar of cocoa mix, and 2 or 4 spoons in a basket lined with tissue. Set the basket in the middle of a sheet of cellophane, gather at the top and tie with ribbon.

Clocks are also really easy. Anything you can drill a hole in can become a clock! You can buy the mechanisms at craft stores, then just drill a hole in the item (old board game, poster in a frame, cereal box, decorative ceramic plate- the possibilities are endless) and stick the clock part in.

People always know they're getting homemade gifts from me. lol

  4. QUESTION:
Does anyone know any easy, simple, quick homemade christmas gifts?
I need to find some easy gifts that i can make. Please try to make your suggestions take less than 1 hour.

    • ANSWER:
One great idea is to make jam, preserves, pickles, chutney or any other kind of treat you prefer and jar it. Decorate the jar with a beautiful Christmas ribbon and a personalized gift tag and it becomes a wonderful gift for someone special. If your family and friends enjoy wine you can make your own batch and put personalized labels on the bottles. Add a ribbon or bow for an added touch.

Gift baskets are another way to put together personalized gifts for friends and family. Is there a coffee lover amongst you? Place packets of gourmet grounds, cinnamon stir sticks, a beautiful mug, and coupons for free coffee at their favorite coffee shop in a basket and tie a beautiful bow on the handle. A chocoholic can be made very happy by putting packets of cocoa, chocolate kisses and homemade chocolate chip cookies in a basket just for them. Other basket ideas can include fruit baskets or beauty baskets filled with cosmetics or bathing items. You can even put together a sports basket for the athlete in your life. Put a sports magazine, a T-shirt from their favorite team and tickets for an upcoming game into the basket. Decorate it by tying ribbons in their favorite teams' colors onto the handle.

Another idea is to make your own Christmas cards by buying plain white stock cards and decorating them with paint, glitter or photos to personalize each one. You can also cut pieces from old Christmas cards to glue onto yours for a professional touch.

      hope this helped!!! :D

You could try making a little soft toy for the child, if you have cotton wool or something similar to stuff it with. The adults might like homemade tree decorations. Friendship bracelets as suggested by Laurie are a great idea for the teenagers, you can make them quite easily by plaiting the yarn and adding some of the beads.
